4 Questions 4: John Mitchell
From leading sales teams for more than 40 years to helping guide the growth of Mitchell Electronics, John Mitchell has built a career around customer relationships, strategic thinking, and business development. While his official role with the company began in 2023, his connection to Mitchell Electronics dates back to its founding.
We asked John four quick questions about his background, his journey with the company, how the company has evolved over the years, and life away from work.
Here’s what he had to say:
Hi John. Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I was born and raised in Athens, Ohio, and graduated from Ohio University. Over the past 40 years, I’ve led large sales teams across several industries and highly competitive markets. That experience has given me a deep understanding of sales processes, sales management, and best practices for driving customer satisfaction.
What is your history with the company, and how many different roles have you had along the way?
Mitchell Electronics, Inc. was founded by my brother Larry and is now led by my nephew Stuart, so even before joining the company in 2023, I had been connected to it from the very beginning. For more than 35 years, I served as a sounding board—primarily on sales and marketing topics, but also on broader technology and strategy initiatives.
Since retiring as Aerospace Sales Director for Element Materials Technology in 2022, I’ve been able to take a more active role with Mitchell Electronics, Inc.
How has the company changed over the years?
Mitchell has always been deeply committed to customer satisfaction, which is reflected in our excellent retention rates and longstanding customer relationships—some spanning more than 30 years.
In recent years, our focus has been directed toward:
- Continuing to add new and innovative enhancements to our line of the most proven and reliable servo motor and encoder testing solutions available.
- Meeting more frequently with customers to gauge satisfaction and better understand how we can continuously improve our products, training, and support.
- Responding to new customer growth. Demand from new customers has increased significantly, and we now serve customers in 35 countries around the world.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
My wife and I love spending time with our five grandchildren, who range from one to eight years old.
I’m also passionate about golf and all things related to health and wellness. I play golf and exercise several times a week, and I’ve been fortunate to attend both men’s and women’s golf events across the country—including the PGA Championship and the Masters Tournament.
